SEO and Meta Information

Optimize your products for search engines and social sharing by configuring meta titles, descriptions, URL slugs, and Open Graph images.

Why SEO Matters

Search engine optimization (SEO) helps potential customers find your products through search engines like Google. Well-optimized product pages:

  • Rank higher in search results
  • Get more clicks with compelling titles and descriptions
  • Share attractively on social media
  • Build trust with consistent, professional metadata

Meta Title

The meta title appears in:

  • Browser tabs
  • Search engine results (the clickable headline)
  • Social media shares

Setting the Meta Title

  1. Open your product
  2. Find the SEO section (expand if collapsed)
  3. Enter your Meta Title
  4. Save the product

Meta Title Best Practices

Character limit: Keep titles under 60 characters to prevent truncation in search results.

Format suggestions:

  • [Product Name] - [Key Feature] | [Brand Name]
  • [Product Name] | [Category] | [Brand Name]
  • Buy [Product Name] - [Benefit] | [Brand Name]

Examples:

  • "Classic Blue T-Shirt - 100% Cotton | MyStore"
  • "Running Shoes Size 42 | Athletic Footwear | MyStore"
  • "Organic Coffee Beans - Fair Trade | MyStore"

Tips:

  • Include your most important keyword near the beginning
  • Make it compelling and click-worthy
  • Include your brand name for recognition
  • Be accurate and honest about the product

Default Behavior

If you don't set a custom meta title, Mozhe uses the product title automatically.

Meta Description

The meta description appears in search results below the title. It's your chance to convince searchers to click.

Setting the Meta Description

  1. Open your product
  2. In the SEO section, find Meta Description
  3. Write a compelling description
  4. Save the product

Meta Description Best Practices

Character limit: Keep descriptions under 160 characters for full display.

What to include:

  • Key product features or benefits
  • A call to action (e.g., "Shop now", "Free shipping")
  • Relevant keywords (naturally, not stuffed)

Examples:

  • "Comfortable cotton t-shirt in classic blue. Perfect for everyday wear. Free shipping on orders over $50. Shop now!"
  • "Premium running shoes with cushioned soles for maximum comfort. Available in sizes 38-47. Fast delivery."
  • "100% organic, fair trade coffee beans from Colombia. Rich, smooth flavor. Subscribe and save 15%."

Tips:

  • Write unique descriptions for each product
  • Include your primary keyword naturally
  • Create a sense of value or urgency
  • Match the searcher's intent

Default Behavior

If not set, Mozhe uses the beginning of your product description as the meta description.

Meta Keywords

Meta keywords help categorize your product for internal search and some SEO purposes.

Setting Meta Keywords

  1. Open your product
  2. In the SEO section, find Meta Keywords
  3. Enter relevant keywords separated by commas
  4. Save the product

Example:

blue t-shirt, cotton shirt, casual wear, mens clothing, summer fashion

Note: While meta keywords have limited impact on modern search engines like Google, they can help with internal site search and some smaller search engines.

URL Handle (Slug)

The URL handle is the part of the URL that identifies your product:

https://yourstore.com/shop/blue-cotton-t-shirt
                           └── This is the handle

Setting the Handle

  1. Open your product
  2. Find the Handle field (usually near the title)
  3. Enter a URL-friendly slug
  4. Save the product

Handle Requirements

  • Lowercase letters and numbers only
  • Words separated by hyphens
  • No spaces or special characters
  • Unique within your site

Good examples:

  • blue-cotton-t-shirt
  • running-shoes-42
  • organic-coffee-beans

Avoid:

  • Blue Cotton T-Shirt (uppercase not allowed)
  • blue_cotton_t_shirt (underscores not recommended)
  • blue-cotton-t-shirt-best-quality-2024-sale (too long)

SEO Tips for Handles

  • Include your primary keyword
  • Keep it concise (3-5 words ideal)
  • Make it descriptive but not stuffed with keywords
  • Avoid changing handles after publishing (breaks existing links)

Automatic Generation

When you create a product, Mozhe automatically generates a handle from the title. You can customize it before saving.

Open Graph Images

Open Graph (OG) images appear when your product is shared on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Automatic OG Images

Mozhe automatically uses your product's primary image (first image) as the Open Graph image. No additional configuration needed.

Image Best Practices

For optimal social media display:

  • Dimensions: 1200 x 630 pixels (1.91:1 ratio)
  • Format: JPEG or PNG
  • File size: Under 1MB
  • Content: Product clearly visible, minimal text

Social Media Display

When someone shares your product URL:

  • Facebook: Shows image, meta title, meta description
  • Twitter: Shows image, title, and description (as a card)
  • LinkedIn: Shows image and title

AI-Generated SEO Content

Mozhe can generate SEO content using AI:

  1. Open your product
  2. Click Generate with AI in the SEO section
  3. Select what to generate:
    • Meta title
    • Meta description
  4. Review and edit the generated content
  5. Save the product

The AI considers your product title, description, category, and attributes to create relevant SEO content.

Multi-Language SEO

For stores with multiple languages, SEO fields are translatable:

  1. Open your product
  2. Switch to the language you want to edit
  3. Update the meta title and description in that language
  4. Save the product

Each language can have:

  • Unique meta title
  • Unique meta description
  • Unique meta keywords
  • Same handle (handles are not translated)

Language-Specific Tips

  • Write meta descriptions that resonate with the local market
  • Use keywords that local customers search for
  • Consider cultural differences in marketing language

Category and Collection SEO

Categories and collections also support SEO optimization:

  1. Open a category or collection
  2. Set the name (used as default meta title)
  3. Write a description (used as default meta description)
  4. The handle is auto-generated from the name

Well-optimized categories help customers find product groups through search.

Testing Your SEO

Preview in Search Results

Use tools to preview how your product appears in search results:

  1. Copy your product URL
  2. Use a SERP preview tool (search for "SERP preview tool")
  3. Enter your meta title and description
  4. See how it looks in Google results

Social Media Preview

Test how your product looks when shared:

  1. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger (developers.facebook.com/tools/debug)
  2. Enter your product URL
  3. See the Open Graph preview
  4. Click "Scrape Again" to refresh after making changes

Google Search Console

For ongoing SEO monitoring:

  1. Connect your store to Google Search Console
  2. Monitor which products appear in search results
  3. Track clicks and impressions
  4. Identify opportunities for improvement

SEO Checklist

Before publishing a product, verify:

  • Product title is descriptive and includes primary keyword
  • Meta title is under 60 characters and compelling
  • Meta description is under 160 characters with a call to action
  • Handle is URL-friendly and includes primary keyword
  • At least one high-quality image is uploaded

Inherited SEO Settings

Mozhe supports SEO inheritance:

  1. Site-level defaults - Set fallback metadata in site settings
  2. Category-level - Categories can have their own metadata
  3. Product-level - Product metadata overrides category and site

This means products automatically inherit reasonable defaults if you don't set custom metadata.

Next Steps

  • Creating products - Build your product catalog
  • Variants and attributes - Set up product options
  • Categories and collections - Organize for discoverability

Common Issues

Meta title being truncated

Your meta title is too long. Keep it under 60 characters. Google may truncate longer titles.

Description not showing in search

It can take time for search engines to re-crawl your pages. Also, Google sometimes generates its own descriptions if it thinks they're more relevant.

Social share showing wrong image

  1. Clear the social platform's cache (use their debugger tool)
  2. Ensure your primary image meets size requirements
  3. Wait a few minutes and reshare

Handle conflicts

Each product must have a unique handle. If you see a conflict:

  • Change the handle to something unique
  • Add a number or distinguishing word
  • Handles like blue-t-shirt-2 are acceptable
