Categories and Collections
Organize your products into categories and collections to help customers navigate your store and find what they're looking for.
Categories vs. Collections
Understanding the difference helps you organize your store effectively:
Categories are hierarchical groupings based on what a product is:
- Clothing > T-Shirts
- Electronics > Smartphones
- Home > Kitchen Appliances
Collections are curated groupings based on themes, promotions, or merchandising:
- Summer Sale
- Best Sellers
- Gift Ideas
- New Arrivals
A product can belong to multiple categories and multiple collections simultaneously.
Creating Categories
To create a new category:
- Navigate to Products > Categories in the sidebar
- Click Add Category
- Fill in the category details:
Category Handles
The handle determines the category's URL:
https://yourstore.com/shop?category=t-shirts
Handles are automatically created from the category name but can be customized. Requirements:
- Lowercase letters and numbers only
- Words separated by hyphens
- Unique within your site
Hidden Categories
Categories can be marked as hidden:
- Open the category
- Enable the Hidden toggle
- Save
Hidden categories:
- Do not appear in the main shop navigation
- Can still be accessed via direct links
- Still appear in filter options when browsing products
- Are useful for organizing products internally
This is helpful for:
- Seasonal categories you want to hide temporarily
- Internal organization without customer-facing navigation
- Categories used only for discount targeting
Creating Collections
To create a new collection:
- Navigate to Products > Collections in the sidebar
- Click Add Collection
- Fill in the collection details:
- - Display name (e.g., "Summer Sale 2024")
Collections work similarly to categories but are designed for promotional and merchandising purposes.
Hidden Collections
Like categories, collections can be hidden:
- Open the collection
- Enable the Hidden toggle
- Save
Hidden collections are useful for:
- Preparing promotions before they go live
- Creating private collections for specific customer groups
- Testing new merchandising strategies

Category-Based Features
Categories in Mozhe support several advanced features:
Category Details Configuration
Each category can have its own details configuration:
- Open a category
- Navigate to the Details tab
- Configure:
- Specification Templates - Define which specs products should have
- Trust Badges - Category-wide trust signals
- Display Settings - How products in this category appear
These settings are inherited by products unless overridden at the product level.
Category Discounts
You can apply discounts to entire categories:
- Create a discount in Marketing > Discounts
- In the discount targeting, select categories
- All products in those categories receive the discount automatically
This is more efficient than applying discounts to individual products.

- Use clear, customer-friendly names
- Keep names concise (1-3 words)
- Use consistent capitalization
- Avoid abbreviations unless widely understood
Good examples:
- T-Shirts
- Running Shoes
- Kitchen Appliances
Avoid:
- TS (too abbreviated)
- T-Shirts/Tops/Tees (too long)
- tshirts (inconsistent capitalization)
Collection Naming
Collections can be more creative since they're often promotional:
- "Summer Essentials"
- "Gifts Under $50"
- "Staff Picks"
- "Limited Edition"
Organization Tips
- Don't over-categorize - Too many categories confuses customers
- Ensure coverage - Every product should be in at least one category
- Use collections for promotions - Keep categories stable, use collections for temporary groupings
- Review regularly - Archive or hide unused categories and collections
SEO Considerations
Categories and collections create browsable pages on your storefront:
- Use descriptive names that customers might search for
- Write compelling descriptions for category pages
- Consider popular search terms when naming categories
Positions and Ordering

Control the order categories appear in filters:
- Go to Products > Categories

- SEO and meta information - Optimize category and collection pages
- Creating products - Add products to your categories
Common Issues
Category not appearing in filters
Make sure the category:
- Has at least one active product assigned
- Is not marked as hidden
- Has been saved after creation
Products not showing in collection
Verify that:
- Products are assigned to the collection
- Products have Active status
- Products have available inventory (if hide out-of-stock is enabled)
Duplicate handles
If you see an error about duplicate handles:
- Each category and collection must have a unique handle
- Change the handle to something unique
- Handles are separate for categories and collections (they don't conflict)
